James Tavernier has been a key player for Rangers ever since he joined the Gers back in 2015 from Wigan Athletic but all throughout the summer, the defender has been the subject of numerous transfer interests.

Last season, the full-back managed to score 17 goals and make 20 assists and there have been rumours that as many as 10 clubs have shown interest in signing him this transfer window.

But James Tavernier has always maintained that his future lies at Ibrox and he will not be leaving this summer.

The Rangers’ captain had said“It’s a compliment and that is how I see it. But all my emphasis is on Rangers.

“Things can happen in football but I’m looking forward to this season. It’s all speculation.

“If it stays like that then I don’t get upset about it. I’m fully focused on the job here. With the clubs, I was at, Newcastle and Wigan, it didn’t work out for me.

“Rangers gave me a chance. The club have shown faith in me. I have been trying to repay that favour ever since, which means working harder, getting better and better. I love my football here, my family is settled and I am in a great place at the moment.”

But recent rumours had suggested that the Gers are looking to bring in a like-to-like replacement which immediately pointed to the fact that James Tavernier could be on his way out of the club before the end of this month.

Steven Gerrard though has been quick to come out and rubbish these rumours stating that the defender is an integral part of the squad.

“I read that we were linked with a right-back which is total rubbish,” Gerrard said.

“I’ve said on record before that James is a big part of what we are doing here and he has been one of my most consistent players as well.”

Newcastle United were said to be the frontrunners in the race to sign James Tavernier but now that the English window has shut down the Magpies cannot bring in any new players.

And we are pretty confident that James Tavernier would want to join a Premier League club in case he chooses to leave Rangers.
