As per the latest reports, Newcastle United are planning to approach Manchester City for a loan move for Kalvin Phillips.
Kalvin Phillips has been on City’s books since 2022 but up until now, the England international has played in only 29 games in all competitions. His career graph has dipped massively and this season, he’s played only 89 minutes of Premier League football.
Before joining Manchester City, Phillips was one of the best central midfielders in England but right now, he’s struggling to get game time. Phillips’ luck is not going to turn anytime soon at the Etihad Stadium but Newcastle can offer him a massive lifeline.
Sandro Tonali is suspended due to all the betting offences while Elliot Anderson is out with a back injury which is why the Magpies are so eager to bring in a new central midfielder during the January transfer window.
Newcastle want to sign Kalvin Phillips on a loan deal and as per the rumours, Pep Guardiola won’t mind sending him out during the middle of the season.
MCFC have Rodri, Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes in their squad so Phillips is absolutely useless to Guardiola. However, under Eddie Howe, the England international can revive his career and secure a permanent exit at the end of the season.
His career is dead at Manchester City and he’s going to be sold in the summer anyway. A loan move in January will give the midfielder a chance to prove his worth and help City get a good value from his sale. The details of the loan arrangement have not been revealed but we think City will be keen to add an obligation to buy clause at the end of the loan term just to make sure that Kalvin Phillips is out once and for all.
Newcastle United are playing in the Champions League this season and if they qualify for the knockout stages then Phillips will be able to play in Europe as well. The midfielder needs constant game time to be able to bring his confidence back and if Guardiola is ready to part ways with him then the Magpies have a great chance of landing the 27-year-old at the start of the new year.
