The Blues skipper has emerged to become a key figure in Guardiola’s plans at Manchester City.

He had to overcome an injury nightmare as well as prove that he is good enough for the system Pep wants to employ at the club.

And the Catalan is credited with having introduced a whole new culture at the club, revamping approaches to nutrition, fitness, and team bonding.

He has also instituted a style of playing out from the back which caused the Blues plenty of problems at times last season, which was very much a transitional phase.

But Kompany says that it is during the game that you see Guardiola’s greatest attribute.

“I would say Pep Guardiola’s number one quality is that he sees the technical and tactical aspect of a game really fast,” said Kompany.

“Sometimes when you are in a game it is hard to figure out what is going on, especially with players you don’t know, but he can break it down pretty quickly and then solve the issue.

“It’s not about genius it’s about having the skill to get the message across in a way the team understands it.

“His previous teams have been successful because of that.”

The Belgian also hinted that he may want to stay at City beyond his playing days.

He said: “This club has given me so much, and I think I have given a lot back.

“I didn’t really expect any of this when I came to England but there’s a relationship now that’s going to grow and go further. Once I finish playing I’m still a Manchester City player for the rest of my life, that won’t change.”

Kompany is now an integral part of the back three that Pep has recently looked to play. He complements the style that Stones and Otamendi play with and the three of them together look formidable.

The captain will be looking to start City’s home campaign for this season with a win against Everton.

Everton started the season with a 1-0 win courtesy of a Wayne Rooney goal and City will be wary of the man who tormented them while being at the other Manchester club in the city- Manchester United.

Everton have signed 7 new players this season as they look to compete amongst the big boys in the Premier League. The latest of these signings being Gylfi Sigurdsson who was brought to Merseyside for a club record fee of £45 million. City will have their task cut out against Ronald Koeman’s side as both of the sides look to start with 2 wins in a row.
