Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by Newcastle United in the Premier League this weekend meaning Jurgen Klopp’s side are now four points behind the fourth spot on the table.

The Anfield outfit needed to pick up all three points on Saturday to ensure they remain close to the final Champions League spot but now if Everton can manage to win their game in hand then Ancelotti’s side will leapfrog over Liverpool on the table.

Joe Willock scored a 95th-minute goal to snatch a point off Liverpool and speaking after the game, midfielder Thiago has revealed that his teammates need to show they deserve Champions League football.

Thiago told BT Sport, as quoted by talkSPORT: “We have no words to explain the disappointment we have.

“The will to win, the desire to win is a very big part of the competition. We had a lot of chances to win in the first half.

“We tried to play our game. That was the key today. It worked very good in the first half, we created many spaces and created a lot of chances.

“It doesn’t change that we want to win and want to be in the Champions League but for that we have to deserve to be there.”

Liverpool had multiple opportunities to kill off the game but all those missed chances eventually came back to haunt the Anfield outfit. They had conjured nine shots on target on Saturday but could manage to score only one goal.

After this draw, things are looking really grim for Jurgen Klopp and his players especially since they will have to face Manchester United next weekend. Anyhow Liverpool will need to win that game if they wish to remain in the hunt for a Champions League spot next season.

Man United have been in fine form this season but they do have a key Europa League game in midweek so Liverpool will be hoping that fatigue could play a major role in stopping United from playing their best brand of football.
