Man City players’ ratings vs Liverpool: Guardiola’s men turn up the heat

The match was expected to provide us with a lot of goals and it did but the only difference was that all the goals were scored by one side.

Manchester City brought on their A-game and were helped by Liverpool being reduced to 10 men as they drubbed the Reds by 5 goals to nil.

Sergio Aguero opened the scoring keeping up his great record against the Merseysiders before a brace each from Gabriel Jesus and his substitute replacement Leroy Sane sealed a comfortable win for Manchester City.

There were quite a lot of star performers and here are the player ratings:

Ederson – 7/10

Largely untroubled by Liverpool’s front three as he made a couple of decent saves before he suffered the horrible injury from Mane’s challenge.

Danilo – 7/10

The player is beginning to show the value in his purchase with his versatility. Started as a centre back in 3 man defence and later moved to the left and then in defensive midfield. Looked solid throughout.

John Stones – 7/10

How often do you get to say that he was defensively the most solid player from Man City? The Englishman covered up for an uncharacteristically rash start from Nicolas Otamendi on more than a couple of occasions.

Nicolas Otamendi – 4.5/10

Poor performance from the Argentinian as he picked up an early yellow card, made some poor clearances, rash tackles and was nearly destroyed by Salah for the whole of the first half. Pep will reconsider his position after this game.

Kyle Walker – 6.5/10

Pushed forward well enough and his defensive contribution was largely not required as Mane was sent off in the first half itself. Looks like a good signing for City.

Benjamin Mendy – 7/10

Had a tentative start but grew into the game as it progressed. His attacking abilities will surely please his manager but his defensive ability has yet to be tested.

Fernandinho – 7/10

Solid performance from the Brazilian again. He did look exposed a couple of times early in the first half but after Mane’s sending off it was a comfortable afternoon for him.

David Silva – 7.5/10

He is a vital cog in Guardiola’s machine. He did not assist or score but was ever-present as City worked their way around Liverpool. He kept the ball ticking for the Blues.

Kevin De Bruyne – 8.5/10

Brilliant display from the Belgian. His excellent through ball set Aguero up for the opener and he planted the ball on Jesus’ head for the second goal. Deservedly named Man of the Match.

Sergio Aguero – 8/10

Scored in the sixth consecutive home game against Liverpool. He was always a threat constantly running at the Liverpool defence trying to get in behind. Scored one and quite unselfishly set Jesus up for one.

Gabriel Jesus – 8/10

Taken off early in the second half but he had already done the damage by then, scoring twice for City. Great prospect this man is proving to be.

Substitutes:

Bravo -6/10

Hardly had anything to do as Liverpool were completely subdued by the red card.

Leroy Sane – 8/10

Immediately made an impact and scored two absolutely beautiful goals as he stakes his claim for a starting berth in a packed City side.

Eliaquim Mangala – 6/10

Looked comfortable when he replaced Otamendi but again, he was under no pressure whatsoever.
