Chelsea and MCFC are interested in signing Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise but both clubs could miss out on the 21-year-old.

As per a report in the Football Insider, Crystal Palace has no plans of selling Olise this summer because they feel the management doesn’t have enough time to bring in a proper replacement. The Eagles had paid £8 million to sign him from Reading in 2021 and last season, the right-sided winger played in 37 Premier League games, scoring two and assisting 11 goals.

The report is also claiming that CPFC are in the process of offering him a new contract and this deal will not only improve his salary but it will also omit the £35 million release clause.

The release clause is relatively high for a 21-year-old but the performances he has given for CPFC are more than enough for both Chelsea and Manchester City to not sweat about shelling out the money. However, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, it could be possible that there isn’t actually a release clause in his current contract.

Jacobs has told GIVEMESPORT: “Obviously, we hear a lot of conflicting information about the release clause and even if one exists.

“There’s no full clarity because my understanding has always been that Olise joined from Reading in 2021 and, after impressing for Crystal Palace, the £35million release clause was actually removed from the contract. But we do see some reports out there saying that it’s still available.”

Will Chelsea and MCFC miss out on Michael Olise?

Man City want Michael Olise as the replacement for Riyad Mahrez who’s moved to the Middle East while Pochettino wants to reinforce his attacking department after players like Aubameyang and Pulisic have left the club.

Crystal Palace’s major worry will be the £35million release clause and if they can make him sign a new deal then the ball will be in their court.

On the other hand, if Ben Jacobs’ assumption is correct then it is going to be a major issue for both Chelsea and Manchester City. If there’s no release clause then there’s no way Palace will agree to sell Michael Olise this summer.

Even if they charge a bomb for the winger they will have to go for a hasty replacement and chances are they are going to end up overpaying.

Chelsea shouldn’t have any problems in agreeing on personal terms with Michael Olise but his current deal expires in 2026 so Palace will try all they can to hold onto him beyond the summer. A move to either City or Chelsea will be very enticing for the winger and if he pushes for an exit then Palace will find it really difficult to hold onto him.

If the France U21 international agrees on terms with the Blues then there’s no doubt he wants to take the next step in his career. Both the interested clubs will have no issues in spending £35 million and even if there is no release clause neither Chelsea nor MCFC will flinch at splurging around £40-45 million on the 21-year-old.
