Manchester United seem to have shifted their focus back to Lyon’s 23-year-old centre-forward Moussa Dembele who is also in the transfer radar of fellow Premier League rivals Chelsea.
Sport Witness are quoting L’Equipe who claim that Man United remain interested in signing the former Celtic forward who has been one of the best centre-forwards in the Ligue 1 during the 2019-20 season.
The report claims: “L’Equipe state the Old Trafford club ‘thought of formulating’ an offer for the 23-year-old, but didn’t take any concrete steps.
“The newspaper adds ‘contacts remain’, which is most likely between the English club and the player’s camp.
“They also mention the ‘bond between the two parties [mostly between United and Dembele’s camp] has been established for several years and has never been broken’.”
Will Moussa Dembele move to England?
Man United are about to lose Odion Ighalo who’s heading back to China which is why they have shifted their interest to Moussa Dembele. And this is obviously bad news for Chelsea since Lampard wanted the Frenchman as a partner to Tammy Abraham.
If Odion Ighalo is to leave Man United then Dembele can get plenty of game time next season but we think the 23-year-old might not be heading to the Premier League.
Apart from Man United and Chelsea, Inter Milan are also interested in signing the forward and for them, money should not be an issue thanks to Lautaro Martinez’s sale to Barcelona.
Barcelona are willing to pay around €60 million for Martinez which is more than enough to secure a transfer for Moussa Dembele in the summer.
Chelsea & Man United are more than capable of spending money in the transfer market but they need to bring in other signings as well which is why they will be looking to avoid any unnecessary bidding wars in the coming few months.
Moussa Dembele joined Lyon from Celtic in 2018 for a transfer fee of £19.80m and the 23-year-old seems to have carried his SPFL form to France as this season, he has managed to score 16 goals in just 22 Ligue 1 matches.
