Rangers pumped a lot of money into player signings last summer but they were still unable to breach the Celtic fortress as the Bhoys once again became treble treble winners.

A couple of new signings are expected to arrive at Ibrox this summer as well but many pundits feel that this upcoming season, Steven Gerrard’s men will seriously be able to challenge their Glasgow rivals in the Premiership.

Last season was Gerrard’s first one in Scotland and the Liverpool legend took a fair bit of time to understand the dynamics of the league as well as his own squad.

But this time around, the Rangers boss will be more prepared meaning coming second at the end of May will not be an option for the Gers.

And speaking about the upcoming season, Rangers forward Greg Stewart has claimed his side will be able to end Celtic’s command in the Premiership next campaign.

The forward said(as reported): “Rangers did so well last season but just fell short. Now we just want to put things right this season.

“Can we be near to overhauling that gap from last year? Absolutely.

“When you play for Rangers there is a demand on you to win football matches, and that’s what we want to do at this club.

“That’s(the Old Firm Derby) obviously the one you always look for first.

“For me personally, it’s massive, knowing what that game is all about.

“I’m just so excited for the season to begin. The first Old Firm game is four games in but we’ve got a lot of work to do before then.

“There are a lot of games to take care of so we’ll just put that to the back of our minds for the moment.”

The 2019-20 season will kick off on the 3rd of August when Celtic take on St Johnstone at home and the next day Rangers are up against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

The first Old Firm Derby of the season is scheduled to be played on the 31st of August as Rangers host Celtic at Ibrox.
