Rangers FC appointed Steven Gerrard as their new boss last summer and despite a fine start to the season, the Gers failed to match up against their Old Firm rivals.

Rangers made a pretty impressive start to the 2018-19 campaign but that initial buzz quickly fizzled out as the Teddy Bears started dropping points on a regular basis.

On the other hand, Celtic made a slow start to the campaign but Brendan Rodger used his experience to steady the ship and by the time Neil Lennon took charge of the club, winning the Premiership was more or less a formality.

The Bhoys ended up winning the 2018-19 Premiership by a nine-point margin and on top of that, they also managed a domestic clean sweep.

Surely it was yet another disappointing season for the Gers but many fans are convinced that the way their team had been performing this past season, they will surely be ready to challenge their Glasgow rivals next campaign.

And speaking on the same point, Giovanni van Bronckhorst has predicted that Steven Gerrard’s men should be ready to match up with the class of Celtic when the next season gets underway.

He told The Sunday Post: “Thanks to a lot of hard work behind the scenes, and the appointment of Steven Gerrard as manager, the club is now heading the right way, and they are now very, very close to being at the same level on the park.

“Of course, it is an important period coming up, and they look as though they are ready to go and properly challenge. This will be a test for Celtic, because Rangers are ready. Celtic will not get it easy next season, we all know that.”

On paper, the Rangers challenge really looks big enough but all that will depend on whether the Gers can hold on to their star players.

Players like Morelos and Tavernier have garnered really heavy interest and there are rumours that Gerrard might just have to part ways with some of his key players during the summer.

If the Teddy Bears boss can manage to hold onto his stars for one more season then they will really mean business in the Premiership next season.
