The debate about whether Romelu Lukaku is going to sign for Manchester United has suddenly picked pace in the past two days. And now everyone is talking about it.

We take a look at how this news came into the centre stage. And is the Belgian really going to Manchester United?

The sudden outbreak of the news:

Ever since United had decided not to offer Zlatan Ibrahimovic with a new contract, the club has been linked with a list of forward that are likely to move in. And on top of the heap were Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata and Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.

But amongst these two, the media, as well as the pundits, were putting their bets on Morata. Simply because Morata was no longer needed at Real and add to that Lukaku’s £100 million price tag. Reports had also emerged that Lukaku was more inclined towards moving back to his old club Chelsea. So this meant that everyone shifted their focus to Morata. And as human nature would have it, no one was looking elsewhere.

But suddenly SkySports made a tweet on the 6th of July, 2017. And this sent the footballing world into a tizzy. According to their sources, Man Utd had agreed on a deal £75 million deal to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton. And since the news came from the SkySports desk, there was little doubt about it.

Here’s the tweet:

But then shortly after that SkySports made another tweet. This one claimed that a reliable Everton source had confirmed that no deal for Lukaku had been agreed upon with United. So this left the fans in a sort of dilemma. Is the Belgian coming to United? Or is he not?

How it stands now:

The current report that is doing the round in England is that United are indeed going to sign Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku who is currently holidaying in LA with good friend and United player Paul Pogba has chosen to stay back in the USA.

According to the reports, Lukaku will complete his medical for Man United in the United States and straight away join the club on their pre-season tour in the States. United play the first match of their pre-season tour against LA Galaxy.

Is Wayne Rooney part of the deal?

Most probably, Yes.

These have been various sources that have claimed that Manchester United are indeed adding Wayne Rooney as a part of the deal. Rooney has always expressed his desire to move back to his boyhood club Everton. And it looks as if Manchester United are using this oppurtunity to bring Romelu Lukaku to Old Trafford.
