Man United might have picked up a hard-fought draw vs Liverpool but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would feel that his team dropped two points on Sunday.

The home side led the match 1-0 for a long period before Adam Lallana equalised in the second half and this came when Man United were trying to defend their slender lead and hoping to keep a clean sheet.

While a large number of pundits have come out to say that Solskjaer found a good way of halting Liverpool’s progress, Jurgen Klopp was clearly not too happy with how their arch-rivals played.

“This year, last year, the year before, they just defend,” he told the BBC.

“That’s how it is. It is OK. It is no criticism. It is just a fact.

“When you think about Manchester United against Liverpool, you think both teams are trying like this. But it is not. We try.”

And now replying to his managerial counterpart, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come out to claim that he had actually used Jurgen Klopp’s tactics which he used to win the Champions League last season vs Spurs.

“We set the team up to attack and be aggressive and create chances and we did that,” said the Norwegian.

“We are better when we attack quickly, with no dilly-dallying on the ball. We need to be more direct, take more risks and be braver.

“It doesn’t matter if you lose the ball higher up the pitch because you can win it back.

“That is more or less how Liverpool did it in the Champions League final [against Tottenham] and after 40 seconds they won a penalty.

“It’s playing the right type of football, and being more direct helped us.”

Liverpool obviously played in a similar fashion during the UCL final last season and many might agree that a lot was riding on that game for Jurgen Klopp.

But if one were to look closely this game was equally important for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since a loss in this match would have meant that the Man United fans would start growing restless.
