Rangers FC take on Spartak Moscow at home in the Europa League on Thursday and Steven Gerrard might have received a huge boost before the game.

Spartak Moscow have sacked their manager Massimo Carrera just three days before they travel to Scotland.

The Italian has a wonderful managerial portfolio having been associated with Juventus and the Italian national team(as assistants).

Massimo Carrera took charge of Spartak Moscow in 2016 and up until Sunday, he had managed 89 games with a win percentage of 55.

But Spartak Moscow’s poor run this season has forced the club to part ways with Carrera as the management took the decision to sack him after their 3-2 home defeat to Arsenal Tula.

This untimely departure of their manager could be a huge setback for Spartak Moscow given that the Russian side do not do particularly well away from home.

And Rangers on the other hands have successfully turned Ibrox into a fortress.

Spartak Moscow’s assistant coach Raul Riancho will take charge of the club as the caretaker manager and his first game will be the Europa League encounter against the Teddy Bears.

Like any other team, the Spartak Moscow players should also be rattled due to the departure of their manager meaning Steven Gerrard’s men should not have any problem picking up three points on Thursday.

Rangers FC currently top Group G with 4 points while Spartak Moscow are at the bottom with just a single point against their name.
