The 2020/21 season of the Premier League kicks off on 12 September and it concludes on the 23rd of May but Man United and Manchester City are two of the four teams who will not be playing in the first matchweek.

Man United were scheduled to take on Burnley in their season opener while City would have played against Aston Villa in their respective season opener. But both these matches have been postponed meaning the two Manchester sides will now kick off their Premier League campaign on the 19th of September.

The authorities have taken such a call so as to help both Man United and Man City recover from their European endeavours of the 19/20 season.

Man United played in the Europa League semi-finals last weekend while Pep Guardiola’s side had reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League. And this is why both the sides have been awarded an extended break.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will kick off their PL campaign on the same day as Manchester City when they take on Crystal Palace at Old Trafford while Man City will entertain Wolverhampton Wanderers away from home.
