Chelsea are expected to bring in Philippe Coutinho from FC Barcelona in the summer but if this move happens then it could be curtains for the career of Christian Pulisic.

According to ESPN pundit Don Hutchison, the American international will not be hanging around Stamford Bridge in case Frank Lampard decides to bring in Coutinho primarily since the two players do almost the same job.

“I would love to sit down with Jody Morris, who is a friend of mine, and you guys know I’m friends with Frank Lampard as well, and say why aren’t you offering these positions to Christian Pulisic?” Hutchison said on ESPN FC.

“Instead of scouring Europe for a number ten or someone who can play on either flank, you’ve got one in-house. They’ve got one already on the books at Chelsea.

“Invest a little bit more time in Christian Pulisic.

“I hear from the grapevine that he’s a little bit quiet and a little bit shy, maybe it’s time for Jody and Frank to coax that out of him and make him a team player and more demanding on the pitch.

“I’d like to know why Chelsea are going for Coutinho. I can’t imagine Christian Pulisic staying around if they do.”

Is Christian Pulisic heading for the exit door?

Chelsea brought in the 21-year-old from Dortmund and Frank Lampard had really high hopes from the winger. But this season the player has had very little impact at the club having played in only 16 league games so far this season while managing just two assists.

He has netted five goals in the league though and during the past couple of months, the winger was beginning to win back the trust of his manager. But the sudden lockdown has put an end to all that momentum.

And while everyone was sure, Christian Pulisic would start off from where he left after the games resume but now it looks like he could be heading for the exit doors in the summer.

Chelsea are expected to pay big money for Coutinho and in such a tight financial scenario, the club might look to offload Christian Pulisic and use that money from his transfer for other purposes.

It’s still not clear how Coutinho will fill into Lampard’s plan at Chelsea next season but surely Pulisic is in a for a tough time if the Brazilian was to eventually arrive in London.
