Liverpool could take a major u-turn in the transfer market, claims ‘this’ Reds legend

Liverpool sold off Philippe Coutinho in January of 2018 to Barcelona for an initial transfer fee of £105m which could rise up to £142 million.

And the Reds have gone and used that money to bring in some really good players during the last year.

Philippe Coutinho who finally got his dream move and got a chance to play alongside Lionel Messi has been a total flop for Ernesto Valverde’s side.

During the 2018-19 season, Philippe Coutinho has managed to play in 53 games across all competitions, scoring just 11 goals and making five assists.

And if reports are to believed then the La Liga outfit are planning to offload the 26-year-old during the summer transfer window in order to cut down on some losses.

So keeping in line with this news, Liverpool legend Jamir Carragher feels that Liverpool could go ahead and try to re-sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona.

“I wouldn’t say I would be actively going to get him, but if there was a possibility of bringing Coutinho back for decent money, and Barca wanted to cut their losses a little bit because it hasn’t worked out, then I’d do that,” Carragher told the Liverpool Echo.

“Would he be welcomed back? I’m not sure. But he should be. I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be.

“I know he got a little bit of stick when he came back [with Barcelona for the Champions League semifinal earlier this month] because he wanted to move.

“But [Xabi] Alonso wanted to move to Real Madrid, [Luis] Suarez wanted to move to Barcelona, and we still loved them when they went.

“Sometimes we pick and choose who we love when they leave. Nobody forced any player to go to Real Madrid or Barcelona, [Javier] Mascherano is another one.

“Suarez only got stick when he came back because of his antics in the first game [against Liverpool], if he hadn’t done that then he’d be adored when he came back.

“What’s the difference between him and Coutinho?”
