Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa

Newcastle United are finally under new ownership and the first thing the Saudi-backed owners want to do is to bring in a new manager. The new bosses have already made a wishlist and the name of Steven Gerrard ranks pretty high on that.

Gerrard has done some really exceptional work at Rangers since taking charge back in 2018 and the former Liverpool had also managed to break Celtic’s monopoly on the SPFL title.

Many pundits think Steven Gerrard will happily agree to take the Newcastle United job but Danny Murphy is one of those few pundits who has suggested otherwise.

Murphy told talkSPORT: “I have not [spoken to him] but I do not think he will[join Newcastle United].

“My instincts say no, he would not. I think in this stage in Newcastle’s evolution, it would be too much of a risk for him.

“Relegation battle, they are not guaranteed to stay up, no matter who comes in and takes charge.”

Will Steven Gerrard reject the Newcastle United job?

Steven Gerrard has so far managed 186 games for Rangers FC, across all competitions and he currently has a PPM of 2.15. Last season, the Gers won the league table, picking up 102 points and without losing a single game.

He’s managed to totally overhaul the first-team squad and bring in that never-give-up attitude amongst his players. The manager obviously has the ambitions of taking the Gers into the knockout stages of Europe in the coming seasons but if Newcastle United come calling, there’s no way he’s going to refuse.

Brendan Rodgers had seen massive success at Celtic a couple of seasons ago but as soon as Leicester came calling, he immediately packed his bags and moved to England.

And it will be a similar case if the Magpies come for Steven Gerrard.

It’s his dream to manage a Premier League side and at NUFC, Gerrard will be backed by massive transfer funds, something which he can only dream of at Ibrox.

Gerrard’s ultimate aim is the become the manager of Liverpool and managing a team like Newcastle United will be the perfect audition for that job.

The Rangers FC fans will be hoping that Steven Gerrard remains loyal to their club but the harsh reality is that it will be almost impossible for the 41-year-old to reject a job offer at St James’ Park.
