Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 3-2 in the Premier League in midweek and Christian Pulisic and Willian were once again the stars of the show for the Blues.
The duo has been truly influential for Chelsea since the season resumed and both of them were amongst the standout players against the Eagles. After the match, when Frank Lampard was asked about their contributions, the manager was quick to acknowledge the impact that Willian and Pulisic made at Selhurst Park.
The manager said, as per the club’s official website: ‘Christian is hugely important,’ said Lampard. ‘He has great talent, we know that.
‘At the start, he came here in difficult conditions in terms of him not really having had a break, but he started to play really well and now he has moved his game on another level, not just in how he is going by people but there is real end-product.
‘You look at the top attacking players in the world and they score goals and make assists regularly that win games and at the moment he is doing that, so I am delighted with him.
‘Willian was extremely influential and he and Christian are a big threat for us. The impact Willian is having in all the games at the moment, with his speed and how he travels with the ball, and his quality, we all see it every game. He has been brilliant for us.
‘But the first 60 minutes today wasn’t that great. We weren’t as slick with the ball as we have been in other games and we held on to the ball a little bit.
‘I thought Billy Gilmour did pretty well but I was not overly delighted with the midfield today.’
Pulisic seems to have settled down nicely at Stamford Bridge but Lampard has a lot of thinking to do regarding the future of Willian.
The Brazilian has played in 33 league matches this season, scoring nine and assisting seven goals. But he is set to be a free agent at the end of the current campaign.
Many pundits think the 31-year-old should be allowed to leave since players like Callum Hudson-Odoi are ready to make an impact but on Tuesday Willian once again showed that he has a lot to offer to the club.
So it will be interesting to see if Lampard tries to sit down with the winger once again and offer him a new deal once the 2019-20 season is wrapped up.
