Chelsea are preparing a January bid for Ghanaian striker Richmond Boakye according to reports in England.

Richmond Boakye, who?

Well, Boakye is currently one of the top goal scorers in Europe – believe it or not. Richmond Boakye currently plays for Red Star Belgrade in Serbia and is in his second season with the club. The 24-year-old has played 48 games for The Stars and has managed to score 39 goals. Yes, 39.

This season alone the Ghanaian has scored 23 goals in just 28 games which has put the striker in the limelight and rightly so. According to Football London, Chelsea are planning a January bid for the Boakye as their manager Antonio Conte looks at the striker as a potential replacement to Michy Batshuayi.

Batshuayi has been struggling with game time at Stamford Bridge as Conte does not seem to trust the player – even when Morata is out with injuries. And this has given rise to a lot of rumours that the Belgian might move out of the club as part of a loan deal for the rest of the season – in order to save his dreams of playing in the World Cup next summer.

And Richmond Boakye seems to be an apt replacement for Batshuayi if the Belgian does decide to move out. Morata is currently playing most of the games as Chelsea’s preferred frontman which clearly has been taking a toll on the Spaniard. In such a scenario, Richmond Boakye will certainly ease a lot of pressure for Chelsea’s marquee summer signing.

The report suggests that Boakye will be available for under £20 million and given the numbers of goals that he has scored in this season he will be nothing short of a bargain.
