Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva feels he wants a new challenge and the midfielder dreams of playing for FC Barcelona.

Barcelona have a long-standing interest in the Portugal international but they failed to sign him last year. However, the Catalans will come back this summer as well and this time, Silva will also push for an exit.

Bernardo Silva joined Manchester City from AS Monaco in 2017 and in these seven years, he’s become a key player under Pep Guardiola. To date, he’s played in close to 348 games across all competitions and last season, he won the treble with City which is why he feels his job at the club is done.

He’s continued to impress this campaign as well with 10 goal contributions in 27 Premier League games but his contract expires in 2026 and there’s no way he wants to stay at Manchester for that long.

Will Barcelona be able to land Bernardo Silva?

Barcelona are still dreaming of signing Bernardo Silva during the summer window but his contract with Manchester City has a £50 million release clause which is their biggest stumbling block right now.

Barca’s financial condition are a complete mess and unless they sell some big-name players, there’s no way they will be able to pay £50 million for the Man City midfielder.

The Catalans have been operating under the 1:4 rule which means they can spend only one euro out of the four they have brought in but as per some rumours, the club could go back to the 1:1 rule wherein they will be able to spend every single euro they save.

If Barcelona get back to the 1:1 rule then it will be a lot easier for them to pay the £50 million for Bernardo Silva. Silva is even ready to lower his wages in order to move to the Camp Nou so the stage is set for Barcelona to just pay the release clause.

Pep Guardiola won’t want to lose the midfielder because he’s a key player but the Man City manager is already preparing for life without him which means if the Spanish outfit arrives with £50 million in a bag they won’t struggle to sign Bernardo Silva.
