Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is wanted by a host of top European clubs and as per the latest reports, PSG have decided to sign him in the summer.

Chelsea and Arsenal have been linked with the Nigerian international for the longest time but if things go according to PSG’s plans then both the Premier League sides are set to miss out.

Osimhen signed a new contract with Napoli in December of last year but the club’s management has admitted that the striker is going to leave the club at the end of this season – if a team triggers his €120 million release clause.

Now, PSG who are about to lose Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid have decided to sign Victor Osimhen by paying his release clause.

This news is a major blow for Arsenal as well as Chelsea both of whom are on the hunt for a new centre-forward and Victor Osimhen was one of their most important targets.

In the last couple of months, Arsenal have also been heavily linked with players like Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko so Mikel Arteta won’t be too disheartened with PSG’s interest in Osimhen but for Chelsea, this is a huge setback.

Chelsea are struggling with Nicolas Jackson as their main striker this season and it’s a no-brainer that Pochettino will need to be backed with a new world-class centre-forward in the summer. Like Arsenal, the Blues also have several other targets but Victor Osimhen is a tried and tested goal-scorer so they won’t mind paying €120 million for the 25-year-old.

PSG seem to have made up their mind but that’s about it because they still need to approach Napoli as well as Osimhen. The Nigerian international is said to be keen on playing for a Premier League club meaning if Chelsea can also trigger his release clause then PSG might be pushed to the back-seat.

Victor Osimhen joined Napoli in 2020 from Lille and since then, he’s scored 74 goals along with 18 assists in 129 appearances for the Serie A side. He can be the perfect replacement for Mbappe at PSG but then again, Chelsea can also do with a clinical player like him because Nicolas Jackson is comically bad infront of goal.

Arsenal won’t be too bothered because firstly, they do not wish to spend €120 million on a single player and secondly, they are now fully focused on Gyokeres who is going to cost way less than Victor Osimhen.

PSG decision means Kylian Mbappe will be on his way out very soon and Napoli are also being linked to Genoa star Mateo Retegui as Osimhen’s replacement. This only means that Chelsea will have to make up their mind very quickly because if PSG set the ball rolling then the Blues will miss out on a top striker.
