Alexis Sanchez was tipped to join Manchester City for the longest time but the Chilean eventually moved to Manchester United and now former Liverpool midfielder David Thompson reveals why.

Sanchez has been constantly churning out below average performances since he moved to Old Trafford in January from Arsenal and many have claimed that the forward is still adjusting to life at Manchester United.

But David Thompson feels that the reason is totally different.

The former Liverpool midfielder thinks that Sanchez’s form was going down over the past year or so and Pep Guardiola was good enough to spot that decline.

Thompson said: “I personally think Sanchez’s form has been off for nearly 18 months

“Has he lost his hunger and desire? I don’t know but you very rarely see him as feisty as when he first came or when he was at Barca!

“I think Pep saw that.”

And we kind of agree with what David Thompson is trying to say.

Manchester City were frantically chasing Alexis Sanchez for the whole of last summer and in January too, multiple reports had claimed that Guardiola was once again going after the forward.

But when Sanchez joined Manchester United, everyone thought that the Red Devils had pulled a coup on their neighbours.

Now though it seems as if Guardiola simply lost interest in the player and he let his counterpart have an out of form Alexis Sanchez.
