Manchester United looked to be back in the groove as they beat Swansea City 2-0 in the Premier League on Saturday and after the match, their manager Jose Mourinho was all praises for his fellow compatriot Carlos Carvalhal.

According to the United manager, Carvalhal should be named the manager of the season for saving Swansea’s season and keeping them in the top flight for one more season – hopefully.

In his post-match press conference, Mourinho said: “This guy [Carvalhal] is going to keep Swansea in the Premier League,

“He is the manager of the season because they were dead and he is going to save them.

“He changed the players,” he added, noting Carvalhal’s double change at half-time which saw United fail to add to their 2-0 lead in the second-half.

“Not many coaches would do that at half-time. He did it and improved his team.”

We can clearly see where the Manchester United boss is coming from. When Carvalhal took charge of Swansea City back in December of last year the club were rock bottom on the league table and were destined to move back to the Championship after managing to stay in the Premier League for 7 long years.

But since Carvalhal took charge of the Welsh side, the club have seen a major turn around in their performances – managing to win five of their 11 league games.

Swansea are currently 15th on the league table – 3 points above the relegation zone but the defeat against Manchester United means that theoretically, the club are still not safe from relegation and Carvalhal knows that pretty well.

But the manager is also confident that he can save his team from relegation.

Carlos Carvalhal: “We are swimming now, absolutely,

“We are not in the line of the water we are swimming, and this is good because if you go to the line sometimes, the sharks push you down and you can go last position.

“But so far, we’re swimming so it’s not bad, but we still feel we need to swim faster and we need more points to stay up.”
