Manchester United have already lost Ander Herrera at the end of the season and there’s a huge possibility that Paul Pogba might also be on his way out of the club.
This automatically means, Solskjaer will need to bring in a couple of new midfielders in order to stabilize the ship for the upcoming season.
A number of midfielders have been linked with a move to Manchester United with the latest one being Ivan Rakitic.
Ivan Rakitic has been the fulcrum for the Barcelona midfield for a number of seasons now but right now he is 31-years-old and his sharpness on the pitch has been diminishing at a very swift pace.
Barcelona have signed Frenkie de Jong from Ajax and many believe the youngster will force Ivan Rakitic to the bench during the 20191-20 season.
And hence Barca have decided to sell off Ivan Rakitic to a club who are willing to pay the right price for the Croatian.
Manchester United have been deemed as favourites to land the midfielder according to Sport, but the Premier League club are by no means the only ones interested.
PSG and Inter Milan are also in the hunt to sign him and some experts believe that Ivan Rakitic could prioritize Champions League football in case he does decide to move out of Camp Nou.
But if he does decide to join Manchester United and if Paul Pogba leaves for Madrid then the Croatian will without a doubt be the centre of attraction at Old Trafford – at least for the upcoming season.
Now we will just have to wait and see whether Barcelona feel that Ivan Rakitic will be deemed useless or not – now that Frenkie de Jong has arrived.
And if that is the case then how much will they demand for a midfielder who still has two years left on his current contract?
While most experts believe that Rakitic will be a great signing for Man United but others have their inhibitions.
With the acquisition of Daniel James, Solskjaer has given clear indications that he wishes to focus on young British talent this summer instead of making marquee signings.
And by making a move for Ivan Rakitic, the Norwegian boss is going against his own blueprint.
