Premier League sides Liverpool and Chelsea move one step closer to signing midfielder Boubacar Kamara from Ligue 1 side Marseille.

Kamara has come up through the youth ranks at the French club and this season he’s done really well for Les Phocéens. But with his current deal expiring in 2022, the midfielder had recently hinted towards a possible exit from the club in the coming months.

Kamara had said, as quoted: “I would like to finish the season. There are five games left. Then sit down this summer and think about the rest. I think I’m ready to go anywhere after what I have experienced at OM.

“What can convince me to stay? It’s more the sporting project. I’ve been a pro for four years, I have experienced a little of everything here. The sporting project will make me make my decision.

“In view of this season, we knew very well we weren’t going to (finish in the top four). There are four teams in front. It’s not the Champions League that will be a problem for me to re-sign or not.”

Reports had claimed that Marseille were eager to pin him down with a new deal but it looks like their attempts have clearly failed which is why they are out in the market looking for an alternative.

As per the latest updates, Marseille are planning to make a move for Arsenal’s Matteo Guendouzi.

Guendouzi’s loan move to Hertha Berlin has failed miserably and after suffering a metatarsal injury, the Frenchman will return to North London where he is expected to carry on his rehab.

Arsenal will have no problems in letting Matteo Guendouzi join Marseille in the summer and if the Ligue 1 side can get their man then Boubacar Kamara will also be put up for sale.

Liverpool are expected to miss out on Champions League football next season so right now Chelsea look to be in the driver’s seat to be able to sign the 21-year-old. But with Wijnaldum set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, there’s going to be a potential opening in the Liverpool midfield and if Kamara is willing to take that risk then the Marseille man can be a regular at Anfield next season.
