Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa

Rangers FC have signed Hearts striker Kyle Lafferty on a two-year deal – the club confirmed on Wednesday.

Lafferty who has had a previous stint with the club was the centre of a long battle between both the clubs as they failed to agree on a price.

But Steven Gerrard finally claimed on Wednesday morning that the deal was done as the clubs had finally agreed on a transfer price.

Now with Kyle Lafferty on board and the striking department sorted out, Steven Gerrard has no intentions of resting as the manager has outrightly claimed that he wishes to bring in one more player before the end of August.

Talking at a press conference, Steven Gerrard has claimed that he wishes to bring in one more defender – a back up to Goldson and Katic.

Gerrard said: “Still looking for defenders at present but Niko and Connor have been solid at the back. they have been brilliant for me.”

And right now there are only two names that have been linked with Rangers during the past couple of days.

The first one is AFC Bournemouth defender Jack Simpson who has been the subject of interest from the Light Blues for the past couple of months.

But getting him will not be a cakewalk simply because Eddie Howe has a wafer-thin squad this season and he would need Simpson to act as the back up to his first choice defenders.

Another name that has been doing the rounds for the past couple of days is that of Manchester City’s Philippe Sandler.

Sandler joined the Premier League champions during the summer and Guardiola is ready to loan him out for the current season given that the team who wants him can provide the youngster with valuable game time.

If Rangers manage to get into the Europa League then games will come thick and fast meaning getting matches under him should not be a big problem for Philippe Sandler.
