Newcastle United are planning for a major overhaul during the January transfer window and Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette could be their first major signing.

The new owners have massive wealth and they very much intend to go shopping at the start of the new year. And as per the Sunday Mirror, the Frenchman ranks really high on their priority list.

Lacazette has really struggled for game time this season and since he will be a free agent next summer, Mikel Arteta has been reluctant to use him so far.

Will Alexandre Lacazette join Newcastle United in January?

The forward has played in only four Premier League games this season and there’s no way the club are going to offer him a new deal.

Ex-PL striker Kevin Phillips has also urged the Magpies to sign the forward since he does not look content at the Emirates stadium.

Phillips told Football Insider: “I have always been a big fan of Lacazette. I think he’s a great player. He would be an amazing signing for Newcastle. He needs to play week in, week out. I get the impression he feels he is not loved at Arsenal. Perhaps he feels he does not get the credit he deserves.

“In my opinion, he is a class player. If you played him week in, week out, you would reap the rewards. If I was a Newcastle fan and Lacazette came in, I’d be very excited. I know he is blessed with a lot of talent. He’d be a great signing in January.”

Now, Phillips’ wish has been echoed by several other pundits but some rumours though suggest that Mikel Arteta might just be having second thoughts.

Alexandre Lacazette has been shining for the Gunners in their previous few games which is why the manager might use him a lot more in the coming months.

And if the Frenchman can revive his old form then Arsenal will not want to part away with him in January for a few million pounds. Arteta will much rather use him to get back into Europe and then lose him as a free agent.

But this is where Newcastle United’s money will come in.

The Magpies have a large financial pool right now so they can easily spend crazy amounts of money during the middle of the season.

Alexandre Lacazette is a fine fine player and if the new boss wants him then the management will go all out to bring him on board.

The 30-year-old has shone whenever he’s been given the chance this campaign so he can still be an asset for the Gunners. Hence it will be heartbreaking to see Newcastle United snatch him in January especially if he is amongst the goals at that point in time.
