Man United were forced to take off both Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial during their 2-0 defeat at the hands of PSG on Tuesday.

And Solskjaer chose to bring on Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata in their place.

While Mata performed ok during the second half, it was Alexis Sanchez who once again had a poor outing.

The Chilean has not been able to up his game since the departure of Jose Mourinho meaning he has now lost his place to Anthony Martial on the left flank.

And speaking after the defeat to PSG unlike Mourinho, Solskjaer chose to have a very diplomatic approach towards Sanchez’s poor outing.

“I can’t do anything about Alexis Sanchez. When he plays he needs to find himself because we know there’s a quality player there,” Solskjaer said.

And now Arsene Wenger has come out to explain as to why the Chilean has not been at the top of his game ever since he made the shift from Arsenal to Man United last year.

Wenger told beIN Sport: “He has lost his place and plays in the same position as Martial.

“Today who would dispute that Martial is indispensable for Man United? He plays and that’s competition and that’s fair competition in my opinion.”

While Alexis Sanchez was playing for Arsenal he has was virtually unchallenged on the left flank but ever since he has moved to Man United things have been different.

During the first couple of months, the forward got a license to play on the left flank but after a series of poor performances, Mourinho chose to bring back Anthony Martial.

Everyone thought that things would change under the caretaker boss, but even Solsjaer has chosen to use Alexis Sanchez sparingly.
