Alisson Becker Liverpool news
Alisson Becker - Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Alisson Becker has been ruled out for the next couple of matches due to a muscle injury.

Alisson Becker was replaced by Adrian in goal during Liverpool’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea in the FA Cup in midweek but the Brazilian was expected to be back in the first XI this weekend against Bournemouth.

But now the manager has admitted that the injury is serious meaning he will not be a part of the Liverpool vs Bournemouth squad on Saturday.

“Unfortunately Ali is out,” said Jürgen Klopp at his pre-match press conference, as quoted by the club’s official website.

“He had a little incident in training before the Chelsea game. We all thought it was nothing and it was clear he would not play anyway, the plan was he was on the bench.

“There, we thought, ‘Come on, we don’t have to take any risks’ so left him out of the squad. [There was a] scan the next day and they found something. So now he is out. We will see – next week [out], for sure, and then we will see.

“The goalkeeper situation is not comfortable, of course, but we have Adrian and we have Andy Lonergan.

“So Caoimhin Kelleher is also injured [but] Adrian has made some super performances for us in the season, so while it’s not good when a player of the quality of Ali is not available it is good we have a replacement.”

Will Alisson Becker be missed?

While Jurgen Klopp does have an apt replacement in the form of Adrian but after the Cherries game, Liverpool welcome Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

And this match could be the real big concern for the German manager.

Adrian was the culprit during the first goal that Liverpool conceded vs Chelsea this past week and given the physicality with which Atletico Madrid play, surely Diego Simeone will order his players to make life uncomfortable for the stand-in keeper.

Right now, the club are hoping that Alisson Becker will only be out for the next two matches but the extent of the injury will only be known in the coming few days.
