Chelsea have been really poor defensively so far this season and one of the reason has been the injury to Antonio Rudiger.

The German has featured in only one Premier League game this season for the Blues and for the last three months he has been on the sidelines recovering from a groin injury.

Antonio Rudiger had returned back to training last week but he still hasn’t featured for Chelsea during the past couple of matches.

But now, Frank Lampard has announced that the centre-back has returned to match-fitness and will be named in the matchday squad against Lille in the Champions League.

‘He is in the squad. It is good to have him back,’ Lampard has confirmed.

‘It’s potentially difficult but we have given him a lot of work. He has come through that and he looks fit and ready to go, I know he is hungry.

‘He is a good defender, you miss those individuals. And then see what he can bring for us.’

“You can only speak as you look at him, and he looks fit and ready to go, and I know he’s hungry,

“In terms of building him up, rightly so. He’s a good defender. People maybe overlook the fact we started the season with five big players all injured for a period of time.

“You do miss those individuals, so let’s see what he can add to us.”

The return of Antonio Rudiger will surely be a big boost for the Chelsea manager since his defenders have looked lacklustre during the past couple of weeks.

It is still unclear whether the German will get to start up with Tomori out with a hip problem, Rudiger might very well get the nod to play in central defence alongside Kurt Zouma.
