West Ham suffer a major blow in the signing of this 20Y/O striker: Does Moyes have a backup plan?

20-year-old forward Armando Broja has joined Chelsea in their pre-season tour to the USA and this is a major setback for West Ham United.

Earlier, Armando Broja was not supposed to join the rest of the squad for the pre-season tour and this was great news for the Hammers. However, there now seems to be a change of plan as the striker is now heading to the United States along with Chelsea’s latest signing Raheem Sterling.

Broja had a fruitful loan spell with Southampton last time around and since there’s so much competition in the Chelsea squad, West Ham have been confident they will be able to land the youngster. While these hopes can still come true but now that the player is joining Chelsea’s pre-season tour, he will have a legit chance of impressing Thomas Tuchel.

Will West Ham miss out on Armando Broja and do they have a backup plan?

Armando Broja is very much on West Ham’s radar but according to the latest updates, the Hammers are also trying to sign Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca.

It’s still not clear if Moyes wants to land both the strikers or if Scamacca is just a backup to Armando Broja but in both these instances, the Hammers won’t be disappointed.

Broja, if Chelsea decide to leave him, will only be available on a loan spell whereas Gianluca Scamacca will be a permanent buy.

Currently, the Hammers only have Michail Antonio as their main centre-forward so David Moyes can very easily bring in two strikers to his squad as well.

Armando Broja had a pretty solid loan spell with the Saints, but he managed to score only six league goals last season. On the other hand, Scamacca was on fire for Sassuolo, netting 16 goals in 36 Serie A appearances.

If the West Ham board is ready to shell out €50m for Scamacca then it makes no sense to go after someone like Armando Broja who will only be available for a loan spell.
