Mesut Ozil has been a real problem for Arsenal ever since he was awarded that new deal two years ago but there have been rising hopes that Mikel Arteta might finally choose to offload him in the summer.

Right now, the German is the highest-paid footballer at the Emirates earning a staggering £350,000-a-week and if the Gunners could offload him, they would certainly save a lot in terms of their wage bills.

Fenerbahce have been heavily linked with the playmaker for more than a year but recently Ozil’s close friend Acun Ilicali, who is also a major Turkish TV host had hinted that the Super Lig club was trying hard to work out a possible deal.

“I receive lots of questions about Mesut Ozil. I believe in the future the good things will happen,” Ilicali said, as reported by Sporx and Sport Witness.

“I’m not in a position to give details but I know our president is also working hard for this.

“When his contract with Arsenal will expire, the favourites would be Fenerbahce. We are also working on that front. I really wanted to tell you in more detail, but I cannot. We’ll talk about these things when the time comes.”

But now the German’s agent Erkut Sogut has made it clear the player is more than willing to honour his current deal with Arsenal meaning he has no intentions of leaving this summer.

“Mesut has a one-year contract. There will be no change in this regard,” Sogut told beIN Sport via Football London. “So what happens next, time will show.

“Mesut will be 32 years old and will have a few more years in his career. Mesut and his family will make a decision. It will be the best of all.

“I cannot speak about Mesut and Fenerbahçe because I have no right to speak on this matter according to the principle of confidentiality.”

Mikel Arteta was hoping to sell Mesut Ozil so that he can free up his wage bill and in turn hand Pierre Emerick Aubameyang a significant pay rise. But if the German isn’t leaving, there’s no way Arsenal can afford to pay Aubameyang extra money.

This is a serious cause of concern for the North London club since right now, Fenerbahce are the only club who are seriously interested in signing Mesut Ozil and if they are not ready to take him in this summer, there’s very little Arsenal can do about this.

Mesut Ozil has one more year left on his current deal at the Emirates and it’s clear the player is not getting a new deal at the club but if he chooses to remain put until his deal expires, then Mikel Arteta might have no other option but to sell off Aubameyang this time around since the Gabon international is also set to be a free agent next year.
