Aubameyang had been tipped to leave Arsenal in the summer despite positive contract talks with the management – as per reports.

The Gabon international is out of contract in the summer of 2021 but the Gunners are desperately trying to convince him to sign a new deal at the club.

And while the forward is keen on remaining at the Emirates but he wants to wait until the end of the season to see whether the North London club get back into the Champions League or not.

Right now though, there’s very little chance that the Gunners will get back into the top tier meaning Aubameyang should be on his way out of England in the summer.

But according to Michael Owen, Mikel Arteta just might have the players to fill up those big boots of Aubameyang.

“I think Arsenal have got a nice little thing going under Mikel Arteta,” Owen told Premier League Productions, via TEAMtalk.

“They’ve got a nice blend as well. They’re bringing a few young players through, [Eddie] Nketiah, [Gabriel] Martinelli scoring goals as well.

Aubameyang Arsenal

“You never know, one of those two lads upfront could turn into proper players and be like him [Aubameyang], scoring 20-plus goals a season and they’re worth their weight in gold.

“If you can unearth one of those from your academy, it’s a massive bonus.”

Yes, both Eddie Nketiah and Martinelli have really impressed whenever they have been on the pitch for Arsenal this season but surely Mikel Arteta will not be thinking of using them as a long-term replacement for Aubameyang especially next campaign.

We hope that these two youngsters have really big careers at the club but if Arsenal really want to challenge for that top-four spot next season then Arteta will have to bring in a world-class forward in case the former BVB man heads out.

This though will be easier said than done since the manager will have a very limited budget to work with, in case Arsenal fail to make it to the Champions League.

And it will be really difficult for the manager to use a large chunk of that money in order to find a replacement for Aubameyang.
