Arsenal manager Unai Emery brought in a number of new players during the summer transfer window and each of them has played their role perfectly up until now this season.

But without a doubt, the best signing that the manager had made was that of midfielder Lucas Torreira.

Torreira has rapidly established one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and many are pinning hopes of him at becoming the best in Europe pretty soon.

While many Arsenal fans knew that Torreira would succeed at Arsenal after having such a superb time at Sampdoria but what no one had predicted was the rice of fellow midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.

Gunedouzi was playing in Ligue 2 last season and this year he is winning hearts in the Premier League league.

The 19-year-old is fast becoming a regular under Unai Emery and many pundits have been caught by surprise at the rapid rise of the Frenchman.

But former Arsenal player Robert Pires has claimed that the success of Matteo Guendouzi is not an astonishment to him.

“Matteo, I know him a little bit because he used to play for Lorient in France,” Pires told the i newspaper.

“Of course, for Arsenal fans, for journalists and for some people he has been a great surprise because nobody knew him when he signed for Arsenal. But he’s a great player, he’s very talented and he’s very confident.

“For me, no, it was not a surprise for me. I repeat because I know him. He plays simple, he runs a lot, he’s like a warrior. I think he’s like Lucas Torreira.

“For Arsenal, it’s very important to have a player like Matteo Guendouzi. He’s a good player and I think he can make a success with Arsenal. I hope so.”

Matteo Guendouzi has so far played 13 games in the Premier League this season and with each passing game, the youngster looks like a perfect long-term partner to the wonderful Lucas Torreira.
