According to a report in Fichaje.net, Premier League side Arsenal will try and sign Girona left-back Miguel Gutierrez at the start of the new year.

The left-back has come up through the ranks at Real Madrid but in 2022, he moved to Girona and has been playing there since. Gutierrez has played in 43 games for the Spanish side and it seems like his performances have caught the attention of Arsenal.

Currently, Mikel Arteta has Zinchenko who is the first-choice left-back for the Gunners but over the summer, the Arsenal manager has made it clear that he is ready to add competition for every position in his squad.

Aaron Ramsdale was superb in goal for Arsenal last season but still Arteta signed David Raya so there’s no way Zinchenko’s position is safe at the club. Also, Zinchenko is the only out-and-out left-back in the squad which means Arteta will have to add some depth before the busy schedule kicks in.

Zinchenko, like Ramsdale, has been outstanding in the first-team which is why we think the manager wants to bring in Miguel Gutierrez as the backup to Ukrainian international.

Gutierrez’s contract with Girona expires in 2027 and his market value is only €9.2 million which means a fee of around €20 million should be enough to bring him on board.

The 23-year-old is a regular starter for Girona this season so it remains to be seen if he will be ready to play second fiddle to Zinchenko at Arsenal.

The Gunners are one of the best teams in England right now so many players would happily join them to sit on the bench, more so cause they are one of the favourites to win the EPL this season.

At right-back, Mikel Arteta has multiple options like Ben White, Tomiyasu and Soares but on the other side of defence, there’s only Zinchenko. If the Ukrainian gets injured either Tomiyasu or someone like Partey will have to play out of position which is why there’s a big chance Arsenal will try their best to sign Miguel Gutierrez in January.
