Premier League side Arsenal are serious about signing a new striker and as per reports, they have made Viktor Gyokeres their priority target.

The Gunners have been linked with strikers like Viktor Osimhen and Ivan Toney for a possible summer move but Mikel Arteta wants to go after Gyokeres who currently plays for Sporting CP.

The 25-year-old joined Sporting last summer from English side Coventry for a fee of around £18 million and the 25-year-old has taken the Premeira Liga by storm. In 23 league games, he’s scored 19 goals along with 9 assists and if that was not enough, he’s also netted five goals in eight Europa League games.

Out of the 19 league goals, only three have come from the penalty spot and he currently has an xG of 13.3 alongside an xA of 4.6 both of which are outstanding numbers. However, this isn’t the first good season Viktor has had because in his previous two campaigns with Coventry, he had scored 18 and 22 goals respectively.

Apart from being a great finisher, Viktor Gyokeres is also a superb dribbler of the ball and the 6ft 1inch forward is a proper counter-attacking threat.

Arsenal’s other targets like Osimhen and Toney have a £100 million price tag on their shoulders while Gyokeres has a release clause of £85 million which is another major reason why the Gunners are planning to go after him.

Apart from Arsenal, Chelsea are also said to be monitoring the Sporting forward but as per reports, the Sweden international prefers a move to AC Milan over these two London clubs.

Milan are also in the hunt for a new striker but Viktor Gyokeres is currently third on their wishlist after Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

If we were to count the two seasons with Coventry then Gyokeres has now had three consecutive good campaigns and if Arsenal can sell Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah for decent amounts then they won’t mind spending £85 million on the Sporting CP striker.

The striker first moved to England in 2018, joining Brighton’s youth academy and since then, he has spent a significant time of his professional career playing in England. This means unlike someone like Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres won’t take too much time to settle down in the Premier League.
