Last season was a pretty big eye opener for a lot of Premier League teams. Chelsea had to endure a tough season under manager Antonio Conte while Manchester United failed to catch up to their noisy neighbours despite spending so much money in the transfer market.
But not many teams had to go through what Arsenal suffered during the 2017-18 season. The Gunners lost Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United during the January transfer window, failed to qualify for the Champions League and then at the end of the season their long service manager called it quits at the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger called it quits at the end of the season choosing to move out so that the Gunners to rebuild themselves under a new boss. And with that, the Frenchman ended his 22-year-old association with the London outfit.
Now after moving out of the Premier League, Arsene Wenger has looked back at his time at Arsenal and reviewed the couple of mistakes that he made during his tenure.
In an interview with RTL(as quoted by the Metro), Wenger was asked about his biggest mistake which he made at Arsenal to which the Frenchman said:
‘Perhaps staying at the same club for 22 years.
‘I’m someone who likes to move around a lot, but I also like a challenge. I’ve been a prisoner of my own challenge at times.’
The former Gunners manager was also asked if he is wished to move into managing a national team especially after reports that he could take charge of the Japanese national team.
‘I’ve had the opportunity numerous times to be France manager. I’m not sure if it was before or after (Raymond) Domenech. Maybe both,’ Arsene Wenger added.
‘I’ve always been more interested in the day-to-day aspect of management. I find it much more stimulating.
‘It is a question I’ve been asking myself if I should become a national team manager. A national team manager takes charge of ten games per year. In a club, you take charge of 60. My drug is the next match, so…’
