Manchester United scraped past Rochdale in the League Cup earlier this week and speaking after the match, Arsene Wenger gave some tips which could help improve the team’s performances.

United took a 1-0 lead in the 68th minute through Mason Greenwood but Rochdale dug deep and equalised through 16-year-old Luke Matherson around 10 minutes later.

And this was enough to take the game into penalties where Man United eventually held their nerves and came out 5-3 winners.

But clearly, this wasn’t the performance that Man United fans were hoping to see – particularly against a team like Rochdale so naturally, a barrage of negative comments have poured in on the club’s various social media accounts.

And according to Arsene Wenger, Man United still need to fix a couple of more things before they can challenge the likes of Man City and Liverpool for the Premier League title.

“Manchester United is a dream job for any manager,” Arsene Wenger said(as quoted by TEAMtalk).

“At least, any manager with courage and confidence.  Yes, they need – in my opinion – four first-team players.

“But around those players, I see a squad that is capable of challenging. They aren’t as far away as people think. The team have no pattern of play, no pattern of pressing.

“There is a team there, but it needs to be coached and developed. Like I said, four players and they can be challengers.

“For everything. Like I said, Manchester United is a dream job. For any coach. I have confidence, I have courage…and you’re right, I have ideas.”

Before Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho had come out to criticize Man United’s style of play after they lost to West Ham United. And many people believe that United’s next match vs Arsenal could be a do-or-die situation for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

If the Old Trafford outfit cannot up their game during this high-profile match then it would be very difficult for the likes of Ed Woodward to keep backing their Norwegian manager.
