Aston Villa will be hoping to continue their fine run of form when they face Newcastle United at Villa Park in midweek.

Villa are currently fourth on the Premier League table with 40 points and a win could put them six points clear of fifth-placed Spurs. A loss however won’t be the end of the world for Unai Emery’s men because they have a better goal difference than Tottenham.

The last time these two sides met, the Magpies thumped five goals past Aston Villa but the Villans are a totally different beast right now and they are actually the favourites to pick up all three points.

The home side have lost just one out of their previous five matches and a win in midweek can catapult Aston Villa to the second spot( given that both City and Arsenal lose their respective matches).

Aston Villa’s team news and injuries:

Jacob Ramsey missed the Premier League game against Everton due to concerns about a hamstring injury and Unai Emery told the press on Monday that he is a doubt for midweek as well.

Bayern Munich, Tottenham and even Newcastle are interested in signing Jacob Ramsey but Unai Emery has made it clear that he wants to hold onto the 22-year-old.

If Ramsey is available and ready for selection, he will undoubtedly be included in the starting lineup. However, in the event of his absence, Youri Tielemans is expected to be brought into the team. Tielemans played in the FA Cup draw against Chelsea, though his performance in that match was not particularly impressive. Nonetheless, if Jacob Ramsey is unavailable, the Aston Villa manager may find himself with limited alternative choices for the position.

Bertrand Traore is off to international duty while Pau Torres, Digne, Buendia and Tyrone Mings will all miss out due to various injuries.

Aston Villa predicted line up vs Newcastle:

Predicted Starting XI(4-2-3-1): Martinez; Moreno, Lenglet, Carlos, Konsa; Douglas Luiz, Kamara; Ramsey/Tielemans, McGinn, Bailey; Watkins.
