MCFC has no use of Aymeric Laporte and if a club is ready to pay around £25 million then the current EPL champions will happily sell him off, as per reports.

The defender joined Manchester City back in 2018 for a club-record fee of £57 million but this season, he has completely fallen down the pecking order. He played in only 12 Premier League games this season and most of these appearances were against the bottom half teams.

His contract with MCFC expires in 2025 and it looks like the 29-year-old is going to become one of the bargain signings of this season’s summer transfer window.

The defender might be a second-string defender currently but he has no shortage of admirers with Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and even Juventus keen to sign him up.

Is the MCFC boss doing the right thing by selling Aymeric Laporte?

Just one season ago, the central defender featured in 33 Premier League games so he’s not at all a bad defender and at just £25 million he is a proper steal.

Juventus could be a realistic destination for the Spain international but the Italian side is planning to bargain on the transfer fee and this is going to be the downfall for them. There’s no way MCFC will lower their asking price for the 29-year-old.

Chelsea have enquired about Laporte’s availability and as per the rumours, the centre-back is on Pochettinos’ transfer wishlist for the summer. The new Spurs manager is also keen to add a defensive leader to his squad and a ball-playing defender like Aymeric Laporte will be the perfect arrival. Arsenal are perhaps the least likely to sign the Spain international because Arteta is looking for a backup defender and there’s no way Laporte will join the Gunners to become a bench warmer.

As far as MCFC is concerned, Laporte has the quality to play a key part next season but the club has a lot of defenders in their squad so selling Aymeric Laporte will not be a bother for Pep Guardiola. The manager has John Stones, Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias and Manuel Akanji so it makes perfect sense that he wants to get rid of Laporte and that too for just £25 million.

Last season, Stones might have played 34 games for MCFC but of those appearances only 16 was in his natural role of a centre-back so it’s almost impossible for Aymeric Laporte to redeem himself.
