Rangers brought in Borna Barisic from NK Osijek during the summer transfer window.

And the player started life at the new club in some fine form but as the season has rolled along, Borna Barisic has found it really hard to keep himself fit.

The constant injuries have meant that the left-back’s form has also dipped meaning he is no longer the first choice player for Steven Gerrard.

All this was fine but the Rangers fans were taken a bit aback when the manager chose to take a dig at the defender after Rangers’ friendly vs Helsinki.

“He had me worried because he tapped the ground about 55 times”, the manager told RangersTV.

Then Gerrard went to publicly claim that Borna Barisic needed to pull up his socks after the Gers lost to Kilmarnock despite the 26-year-old not playing in that match.

“I think the challenge for Borna is to be a bit more robust and to be available a bit more,” said Gerrard.

“I think it’s 12 games he’s been available for. From a manager’s point of view, that’s quite frustrating as we rate him very highly and when you see him play you can see he’s a quality player.

“I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he’s available from now until the end of the season and that we see his quality on a more consistent basis.”

And now rumours are ripe that Borna Barisic has had a falling out with the manager and they are not seeing eye to eye.

So far the left-back has played in only nine Premiership games for the Gers but most of them had come during the first few months of the season.

The manager has a number of options for his left-back area meaning if Borna Barisic cannot up his game during the second half of the season then the manager will not hesitate for once to sell him off.
