Mason Mount spent the previous season out on loan to Derby County under the watchful eyes of Frank Lampard and the youngster has not returned back to Chelsea along with his boss.

When Lampard took charge of the Blues this season, there a big buzz that the new manager would give youngsters a chance to shine at the club and one of the players could be Mason Mount.

Last season Mason Mount made a very positive impact at Derby managing to score 11 goals and make six assists for the Championship side which are great numbers considering that he is a 20-year-old midfielder.

And this season for the Blues, the youngster has been grabbing a lot of eyeballs with Frank Lampard hinting that Mason Mount could have a bright future at the club.

‘I don’t want to say he’s surprised me with the way he’s taking to the Premier League because I have real belief in him,’ said Lampard.

‘But he has made me stand up and take notice of just how far he can go in the game.

‘Doing well last year at Derby was great but that’s one thing, and coming to Chelsea and performing at this level with all the competition for places is another.

‘Mason has a fantastic character and that’s part of his overall package, plus he has the quality on the ball. Intelligent players who are hungry and have that talent and are fantastic to work with and Mason is exactly that.

‘He’s impressed me even more from pre-season and I believe he can absolutely go to the top if he continues to work hard.’

During the 2019-20 season, Mason Mount has started every game so far playing for the full 90 minutes and has also played around 46 minutes in the UEFA Super Cup vs Liverpool.

And based on the performances that he has given so far it is fair to say that the youngster will be a regular feature for Chelsea during the course of the season.

Mason Mount picked up a knock during Chelsea’s win vs Norwich but Lampard is hopeful that the midfielder will be fit in time for next week’s game vs Sheffield United.

Lampard said: “Mason took a knock to his calf, so that is better than a strain, obviously.

“So hopefully in a couple of days it will settle down, so hopefully that is good news. We will assess it.
