UCL Champions League final UEFA Champions League
UEFA Champions League

The UEFA Champions League has begun on Tuesday while the Europa League will kick off on Thursday.

And while the Champions League will attract the same level of attention during the next couple of months, the Europa League will also grab a number of eyeballs given the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal will be playing in this competition.

But what many fans might have failed to notice is that UEFA – the governing body of football in Europe have made a couple of changes to this year’s tournaments.

The Champions League was famous for it’s 7:45 kick off time but now the UEFA have made changes to those timings bringing it closer to the Europa League.

This means that there will be no 7:45 kickoffs in the Champions League anymore.

Instead, matches will be played in two-time spots 5.55 pm and 8 pm.

Here’s how UEFA have planned it:

  • Champions League play-offs, group-stage games, round of 16 matches, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final will kick off at 9 pm CET (8 pm UK).
  • However, on every group-stage matchday, two of the Tuesday and two of the Wednesday matches will kick off at 6.55pm CET (5.55pm UK).
  • All fixtures on the last matchday will be played simultaneously. Exceptions to this rule can be made by the UEFA administration.

And these change of timings is mainly because the UEFA wants to attract more viewers from the Asian subcontinent.
