Chelsea suffered their second defeat on the trot as they were beaten by Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup on penalties.

Lampard has claimed that he wished to give youth a chance this season but clearly after losing 4-0 to Man United last weekend, the manager was not taking any chances.

He named his strongest XI vs Liverpool on Wednesday and they ended up matching the Champions League winner in every stride. But unfortunately, Tammy Abraham missed his spot-kick to hand Liverpool the UEFA Super Cup title.

And next up, the Blues are back at Stamford Bridge as they play their first home game of the season vs Leicester City.

Chelsea news vs Leicester City:

Kurt Zouma and Christensen started in central defence vs Liverpool but one of them could move to the bench this weekend vs the Foxes.

Antonio Rudiger travelled with the squad to Istanbul but did not come off the bench and speaking in his pre-match press conference, Frank Lampard has hinted that the defender is close to being fully fit.

While Rudiger could feature in the first XI this weekend but we do not think, the manager will risk pushing him given that Chelsea are short on defensive numbers after the departure of David Luiz.

N’Golo Kante played the full game vs Liverpool which clearly has taken a toll on his fitness since he has just returned back from injury.

This means there’s a big chance that the manager could push the Frenchman off to the bench as Mateo Kovacic takes his place in midfield alongside Jorginho and Mason Mount – who is expected to play in a more advanced role.

Olivier Giroud started in midweek and was pretty effective during the game which could lead to Lampard sticking with the Frenchman this weekend at home.

This means that Tammy Abraham starts on the bench and will only come on as a substitute in the second half.

William like Rudiger also featured on the bench vs Liverpool and the Brazilian is also likely to feature in the matchday squad vs the Foxes. Now it remains to be seen whether he will be handed a start.

Christian Pulisic made an impressive full debut in the UEFA Super Cup and we feel that he has done enough to keep his place in the starting line-up on Sunday.
