Chelsea are currently out in the market looking for a new striker and many believe that the Blues are in touching distance of signing Gonzalo Higuain.
Higuain has endured a tough season out loan to AC Milan and reports have claimed that the Blues have agreed on personal terms with the player.
But then there are other reports which are of the view that Chelsea’s director of football has put the transfer on hold.
The director does not want to spend 45 million pounds on a player who has just turned 31 and feels that they can get an even better striker with that amount.
And now rumours have it that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is eyeing a totally different man to lead the line.
The Russian business certainly takes a lot of interest in the players that club sign during each transfer window and as per the report, the Blues owner wants to bring in Mauro Icardi.
Icardi is one of the most prolific goalscorers in European football right now and the Argentinian has already racked up 13 goals in 22 games this season.
But getting him onboard will not be a cakewalk.
Firstly, Mauro Icardi’s contract with Inter Milan runs out in 2021 meaning the Serie A side are in no hurry to offload him.
Secondly, Inter will demand close to £100 million in order to release Mauro Icardi which surely will punch a huge hole in Roman Abramovich’s pocket.
Third and perhaps most importantly, Chelsea are in urgent need of a striker but there’s no way that Inter Milan would agree to sell off Mauro Icardi during the middle of the season.
So what will Sarri do?
Will the Italian buy a makeshift striker until the end of the season and wait for Mauro Icardi?
Or will he force his management to sign Gonzalo Higuain – his original choice?
