Chelsea beat Manchester City 2-0 at home on Saturday and with that Sarri-ball came out on top.
This was City’s first defeat of the 2018-19 Premier League season and many believe the Citizens will lose more points during the busy festive period.
Speaking after the match, Pep Guardiola claimed that his team lost the game due to the absence of Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne – both of whom are injured. But instead of focusing on the City manager’s comments, most people are busy applauding the tactical changes made by Maurizio Sarri for the match.
The first big change that Sarri made was to play Eden Hazard as a false 9 meaning both Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud started the game on the bench.
Most people felt the Chelsea boss dropped his striker duo because they might turn out to be a liability during the match.
But according to pundit Danny Murphy, it was actually Eden Hazard who was a liability.
Speaking on why Eden Hazard played as a false 9, Danny Murphy said: “I think Sarri’s decision to start with Eden Hazard centrally instead of Olivier Giroud or Alvaro Morata was as much to do with defence as attack.
“Pedro and Willian are quick and gifted but also work extremely hard to close people down. Sarri would not want to leave Hazard out of a big game but he would probably consider Pedro and Willian as better at stopping City build from the back.
“Chelsea’s win was a triumph of togetherness and organisation as much as attacking flair.
“Cesar Azpilicueta was unbelievable and Jorginho had a great game, having been criticised during the defeat by Spurs, including by myself.
“The game had a fantastic pace and tempo. The quality was brilliant, not just skills and passing, but in terms of discipline and teamwork.”
Eden Hazard did some fantastic holding up work all throughout the game and he was eventually replaced by Olivier Giroud late in the second half.
