Brendan Rodgers Leicester City vs Man United

Rangers FC went for a total revamp of their club during the summer transfer window and immediately the fans were raving about a new revolution at the club.

Bringing in more than a dozen players, many people claimed that Steven Gerrard was the best manager that the club has had in years and that the Light Blues would be able to win the Premiership during the current season.

But those comments suffered a bit of a setback when the Gers made a very slow start to the new campaign despite which Kyle Lafferty maintained that his team had enough firepower to lift the trophy at the end of the season.

While these comments from Lafferty were optimistic as well as ambitious, football pundit Chris Sutton did not take it too well and blasted the forward for daydreaming and being too ambitious.

A couple of weeks have passed since those statements and Rangers now sit second on the league table – more importantly above their arch-rivals, Celtic FC.

And now suddenly Chris Sutton is singing to a totally different tune.

Sutton has come out to slam Brendan Rodgers for failing to live up the fans expectations and targetting the Hoops for letting Rangers crawl past them.

Sutton said: ”[Celtic have] left the door open for the likes of Hearts, Hibs and Rangers – and Celtic fans won’t like me saying this, Steven Gerrard has transformed Rangers and they do have a real inner belief about them.

“The manager[Rodgers] has to take responsibility – bottom line, too many players aren’t playing up to the level, they aren’t scoring enough goals and, for Brendan to come out and say he is alarmed, is alarming in itself,” he added.

“It’s an enormous couple of weeks for him.

“They need results quickly because it has been flat this season and hasn’t been very good,

“It is all very well having a double treble in the bag, and in that respect, he will get time, but they need to sort themselves out quickly.”

These are still early days in the league but with just three wins right now, Celtic have once again proved that a poor transfer window will come back to haunt a club at some point or the other.

The Bhoys have the opportunity to pick up their fourth win of the season when they take on Aberdeen at home this Saturday while Rangers will hit the road to take on Livingston on Sunday at the Almondvale Stadium.
