Man United are going to rival Spurs for the signing of this playmaker: A very sensible choice?

Christian Eriksen playing for Spurs

According to a report in the Daily Star, Manchester United are set to join Tottenham in the race to sign Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen’s career came to an abrupt half after he suffered a cardiac arrest during the Euros but he’s gotten a new lease of life at Brentford this season.

Since joining the Bees in January, Christian Eriksen has become an integral part of the club, scoring one and providing two assists in six Premier League games to date. He was also very commanding against Spurs as Brentford managed to hold Conte’s side to a draw on Saturday.

The report is claiming that Erik ten Hag has earmarked Christian Eriksen as one of his key summer priorities and it’s hardly a surprise because the 30-year-old will be available for free in the summer.

Can Man United sign Christian Eriksen before Spurs?

Fabrizio Romano had recently revealed that Spurs are interested in bringing back the playmaker but there have been no concrete moves as of yet.

He said: “Christian Eriksen’s agent will meet with Brentford at the end of the season to decide on future. There’s interest from Tottenham but no official talks yet.

“No option to extend the contract for one more season with Brentford – and Spurs won’t decide now.”

Antonio Conte would love to sign a creative player like Christian Eriksen but Manchester United are in even more need of him at the moment.

Paul Pogba will be leaving as a free agent at the end of this season and someone like Eriksen can become the perfect replacement because he wouldn’t cost a dime.

Can Spurs get Christian Eriksen if Conte isn’t around?

In a fresh twist, there have been rumours that Antonio Conte wants to head to PSG now that Pochettino will be leaving and if that happens then there’s very little chance that Eriksen is going to join Spurs.

Obviously, Christian Eriksen has some form of loyalty to Tottenham but if Conte isn’t around then we doubt if the Danish international will want to join them in the summer.

On the other hand, Erik ten Hag reportedly wants Eriksen in his team and the 30-year-old will much rather join a side where he’s wanted by the manager and has the chance to become the fulcrum in midfield.
