Manchester United and Liverpool have both been linked with a move for Benfica’s Darwin Nunez and according to the Independent’s Miguel Delaney, Erik ten Hag wants his team to make a move for the South American.

The new United boss has reportedly informed his management about his appreciation for Darwin Nunez and wants them to challenge all the other suitors for his signature.

Nunez is one of the most sought-after strikers right now as he’s scored a staggering 26 goals in just 28 league matches for Benfica and the Portuguese club is willing to part ways with him but only for a fee of around £80 million.

Which club is the best suited for him?

Erik ten Hag is rebuilding the Man United squad and one of his priorities is to sign a new centre-forward this summer. Cavani has left, Martial will be sold in the coming months and even Ronaldo will leave next year so a new centre-forward is the need of the hour.

City have signed Haaland and if Man United cannot sign a similar striker then all the goalscoring pressure will once again fall on Ronaldo’s ageing shoulders.

Liverpool’s Divock Origi has left the club and now Sadio Mane has also confirmed that he wants to leave in the summer so naturally, Jurgen Klopp needs an apt replacement.

“I will do what they want. We will see soon,” Mane revealed that ’60 to 70 per cent’ of Senegalese residents want him to leave Liverpool.

Both these clubs can very well do with a Darwin Nunez but Benfica’s massive demands could be a major obstacle for both Liverpool and Man United.

Which side is more likely to sign Darwin Nunez?

Liverpool are sure to put up a fight for the 22-year-old but according to journalist Dean Jones, the Reds are not in contention for Darwin Nunez.

Jones is claiming that Man United are the favourites to sign the forward and only one other club is standing in their way.

He said as quoted: “I keep being told – I keep playing this down elsewhere when I’m asked about it.

“I was actually told that this is very close to happening and the only threat United see is coming from Atletico Madrid. So, you know, I don’t want to get too excited. It’s only one guy that’s telling me this, but he is pretty good at United.”

Nunez’s agent is Jorge Mendes who has very close ties with Manchester United and Erik ten Hag will be hoping the Old Trafford management can put this relationship to good use and overcome Atletico Madrid and Liverpool in the signing of Darwin Nunez.
