Liverpool have now joined Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal in the race to sign Benfica’s sensational forward Darwin Nunez, as per AS(as cited by Football Fancast).

Nunez is going to be the talk of the town during the summer and up until now, Arsenal and United were the two biggest sides entangled in this transfer battle. Now, things are about to get really gripping because Liverpool are said to be actively keeping tabs on the 22-year-old.

Darwin Nunez has scored 34 goals and provided four assists in 40 appearances this season for Benfica and as per the major sources, Benfica are ready to cash in on him during the upcoming transfer window.

Benfica want €130M for Darwin Nunez?

Initial reports had claimed that Benfica will part ways with the striker if an admirer is willing to pay €75-80 million and this lucrative price tag had spiked the interest of several big clubs.

Now it seems like Benfica has changed their strategy because they are now looking to secure a club-record transfer fee for Darwin Nunez. If this is true then the 22-year-old’s fee has just bumped up to around €130 million.

Romano hasn’t directly revealed the updated price but one thing’s for sure, €75-80 million will no longer be enough to bring him on board.

Arsenal and Man United to take a back seat?

Arsenal and Man United are both in need of a new centre-forward and someone like Darwin Nunez would have been the perfect signing for them.

Up until now, Man United were ahead of the Gunners in this race as they were the more proactive team but now with Liverpool entering the race, everything is going to turn upside down.

Liverpool are one of the best teams in Europe right now and not many players can refuse when they come calling. With players like Salah, Mane and Luiz already at the club, Nunez will find it the easiest to settle in at Anfield next season.

Jurgen Klopp is likely looking to bring in a replacement for Bobby Firmino which is probably why they are keeping tabs on Darwin Nunez.

Man United and Arsenal are going to suffer due to this new development and if Liverpool make a serious offer then there’s no way either of these two sides will have any chance. Even if one of them can secure Champions League football, it’s highly unlikely that Darwin Nunez is going to snub Liverpool.
