Arsenal signed defender David Luiz from Chelsea on deadline day of the summer transfer window and this Saturday’s game vs Liverpool will be his first big test at the new club.

It came as a shock to a number of people when the Gunners announced the signing of David Luiz since Chelsea had actually chosen to sell off a key player to a direct rival.

But a new defender was something that almost every pundit had been urging the manager to sign so the arrival of the Brazilian was a welcomed move from the fans.

David Luiz made his debut for Arsenal during the club’s 2-1 win over Burnley and the defender had a pretty solid game but according to Charlie Nicholas, he could be exposed this weekend when Arsenal take on Liverpool.

Nicholas said(as quoted by the Metro): ‘I am hesitant, to say the least.

‘It has been a good start, with Arsenal having won their first two matches for the first time in 10 years, so it tells you exactly how they usually start the season.

‘The team will definitely be positive going into it, but the defensive frailties are still there and with Liverpool playing their front three, they will have pace and menace to deal with.

‘The other way to look at it is that it will be a test to see where Arsenal are in relation to the top four. And a huge question on the day will be whether David Luiz will be exposed.

‘The start is crucial, especially at Anfield, as Arsenal need to get through the first 20-25 minutes without damage.

‘It is about getting through the first phase of the game and still being in it.’

David Luiz was a constant figure for Chelsea last season and he does bring a sense of calm to the otherwise fragile Arsenal defence. But the main reason why he could prove to be an asset for Unai Emery is because he has the ability to play from the back.

And if Charlie Nicholas’ words are anything to go by then the Liverpool vs Arsenal match could be the first big litmus test for David Luiz.
